Food Critic Michael David Osterfeld visites popular New Orleans’ Donut stop District Donuts.
Check out the full video:
District Donuts is a trendy donut and coffee place in the Magazine St. district of New Orleans. What makes this place awesome (even more so than some of the best donuts and creme Brule cinnamon role you can get) is their other offerings. They offer fresh made chicken sandwiches and burgers, sliders in both form and a slew of other offerings (see the menu for more.) They also feature growlers of cold brewed coffee to take home and regular refills at that. Be ready to spend some money though as this is a pricey option.
The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. The music is a little loud, depending on the song. The decor is a combination of Edison lighting and pieces of things made into other things. The inside of a piano is made into a light fixture hanging in the front. A set of hammers (I assume maybe from the same piano) is a light fixture above the bar. They feature large wooden hand crafted booths (the booths definitely fit the decor but aren’t very comfortable. Then again, this is probably part of the plan – no wifi and a sore ass after about 45 minutes makes for better table turnover) a bar to sit at (and sip your cold brewed coffee) and an open air kitchen so you can actually watch them making everything. I always trust a restaurant a little more when I can see what they are doing behind the scenes.
Today, Im trying out the Fried Chicken Slider, the creme brûlée cinnamon roll and the “Mars Attacks” donut (today is halloween after all.)
Check out the video to hear my take on the place and see some shots of how everything turned out. Be sure to visit this place for yourself. I hear they opened another one is Las Vega if you can’t make it to NOLA to try this one.
Side Note: The only reason they get 4/5 for atmosphere is because any place not providing WiFi for guests at this point is missing the mark
