We fell in love with Halkidiki, a breathtaking peninsula in northern Greece, renowned for its unique three-pronged shape, each prong offering distinct attractions. We chose visiting Sithonia, the middle prong of Halkidiki, which is a haven of natural beauty and tranquility. This picturesque peninsula is characterized by its unspoiled beaches, crystal-clear waters, and beautiful pine forests.

As we were visiting Sithonia in September we encountered fewer crowds, allowing us to fully appreciate the calm waters and embrace the relaxed, serene atmosphere of the peninsula.

For our stay in Sithonia, we rented an apartment in Agios Nikolaos. This charming village offered a traditional Greek atmosphere with its narrow, cobblestone streets and stone houses with colorful flowers. Staying in Agios Nikolaos allowed us to enjoy the local tavernas and the vibrant central square, while also being close to the stunning beaches and clear waters of Sithonia. It was the perfect base for exploring the natural beauty of the region.

Day 1: Lagonisi Beach

Our adventure began at Lagonisi Beach, a hidden gem nestled on the right side of Halkidiki. The beach greeted us with its white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters. What makes Lagonisi Beach truly unique is its charming little island situated just a short swim away from the shore.

We spent the day lounging under the warm sun and swimming in the inviting sea.

Day 2: Orange and  Karydi Beach

The second day took us to Orange Beach, located on the eastern side of the Sithonia peninsula in Halkidiki. This beach also features fine golden sand and clear, turquoise waters.

One of the highlights of Orange Beach is the Orange Beach Bar, which offers a relaxed vibe and provides visitors with comfortable sunbeds, umbrellas, and refreshments.

As we encountered a windy day with big waves, and had small kids with us, we decided to change our plans and head to Karydi Beach. The beach has a soft, white sand and crystal-clear, shallow waters, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Surrounded by smooth, sculpted rock formations and beautiful pine trees, Karidi Beach offered a unique landscape ideal for families with children

Day 3: Fava and Kalamitsi Beach

On our third day we discovered the beautiful Fava Beach. This small, secluded beach was a paradise of golden sands and crystal-clear waters, framed by dramatic rock formation.

Here as well, due to the wind and big waves, in the afternoon we headed to Kalamitsi Beach, renowned for its soft golden sands and crystalline turquoise waters.

This beach has a captivating rock formation rising from the sea. We enjoyed a peaceful evening here, swimming in the deep blue waters and savoring fresh seafood at a local taverna lined on the shore.

Day 4: Koviou Beach

Our final day was spent at Koviou Beach where a beautiful stretch of sand and clear waters with a mesmerizing turquoise hue nestle between rocky cliffs. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sithonia. Its serene atmosphere and stunning scenery made it a perfect spot for relaxation.

The relaxed vibe of Koviou Beach provided a perfect ending to our adventure.

As the sun set, the sky filled with beautiful colors, creating the perfect ending for our last evening in Sithonia.

Each day of visiting Sithonia, Halkidiki offered a unique blend of wild beauty, tranquility, and adventure. It left us with memories of stunning beaches and the untouched charm of this Greek paradise.

Hope you enjoyed our road trip to Sithonia and convinced you to experience visiting Sithonia, Halkidiki as well. I highly recommend visiting it in May, June or September, for an incredible and relaxing experience. Check out my Instagram for more photos and stories from our trips.

Here are some of the Greek recipes you can easily prepare in the comfort of your kitchen. This amazing Greek Pastitsio, or their refreshing Tzatziki Sauce are are two of the most renowned dishes in Greek cuisine. You can spice it up with this amazing Tirokafteri Dip and Greek Baked Feta with Tomatoes. This Greek Fried Feta with Honey and Sesame Seeds is another Greek dish we love and recommend.

Day 2: Nisiros – The Volcanic Marvel

The following day, we made our way to Nisiros, a unique island formed by volcanic activity. The sailing to our destination was hypnotic. The sea was incredibly quiet and calm, creating a serene and mesmerizing experience.

We anchored at Mandraki, the island’s main port, and ventured inland to the dramatic Stefanos Crater.

Here you can walk on the crater floor and feel the earth’s warmth beneath your feet. Nisiros is indeed a fascinating destination for nature lovers.

Day 4: Kalymnos: The Island of Sponges and Climbing Adventures

The next day, as we sailed to Kalymnos, we were captivated by the island’s rugged beauty. First, we stopped at Pezonta Bay in Kalymnos. It is a calm spot with clear blue water and rocky shores. Surrounded by cliffs and green plants, it’s a peaceful place to relax. You can swim, snorkel, or just walk along the beach. It’s a hidden gem for anyone looking for a quiet escape by the sea.

Anchoring in the picturesque harbor, we were immediately drawn to the island’s history of sponge diving.

Day 6: Sailing to Alimia Shipwreck

The following day we headed to Alimia, a deserted island steeped in history. The main attraction here is the Alimia shipwreck. When you get close, you can see the shape of the wreck under the clear blue water. The wreck is relatively shallow, making it accessible for snorkeling and diving. Then we set course back to Symi Harbor. Here we enjoyed a relaxing evening and explored Greek cuisine at a local taverna.

Day 7: Return to Rhodes Marina

As the week-long adventure comes to an end, we set sail back to Rhodes Marina. It was a good time reflecting on the incredible experiences and breathtaking sights we’ve encountered sailing on the Dodecanese Islands.

Exploring the Old City of Rhodes

Back in Rhodes, we took take the opportunity to explore more of the island’s rich history, vibrant markets, and delectable cuisine before bidding farewell to the Dodecanese Islands.

Steeped in rich history, this UNESCO World Heritage site showcases iconic landmarks like the Palace of the Grand Master and the Street of the Knights. As you wander through its beautiful narrow streets, you’ll encounter charming shops, bustling markets, and quaint cafes tucked away in centuries-old buildings. With its enchanting ambiance and timeless beauty, Rhodes Old City offers a journey back in time, to an era of knights and grand fortresses, that will leave you mesmerized.

Lindos: A Timeless Gem of Rhodes

We couldn’t say goodbye to Rhodes without exploring one of the island’s most stunning destinations, Lindos.

Lindos is a charming village located on the eastern coast of the island of Rhodes in Greece. Famous for its ancient Acropolis overlooking the sea, Lindos offers a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.

Our trip wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without the knowledge of the Sunset and Sails crew. They guided us effortlessly through the wonders of the Aegean Sea.

I could hardly wait to arrive in Paris. This was our second time in Paris, so we had more expectations, as we knew the city better and knew exactly where we wanted to go and what we wanted to experience. It was the right time for a culinary adventure in Paris.

Paris is an incredible city, full of culture and amazing architecture. Everywhere you look the buildings are just impressive.

This time we wanted, as much as possible, to stay away from the major tourist places as we have already seen most of them. We wanted to find places less crowded by tourists, trying to experience the Parisian way of living.

Rue Mouffetard Street in Paris

This is how we get to find our accommodation close to Rue Mouffetard, one of Paris’s oldest streets, narrow, but very full of life, in the heart of Paris, with lots of restaurants, cafes, open markets and various shops, a perfect place you want to be in the morning for a delightful breakfast.

Café de Flore in Paris

We really wanted to get to Cafe de Flore, one of the oldest and most prestigious coffeehouses in Paris. It is located in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, first opened in 1885, and visited by famous people like Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Brigitte Bardot, Alain Delon, Yves Saint Laurent, Sartre, Cioran, famous filmmakers and directors, actors and the list can go on. It is known for its famous clientele even in our days. When asked if we could take photos inside, they refused, telling us there were too many famous people inside who didn’t want to be photographed.

Laduree, Piere Hermé and Fauchon in Paris

Very close to the beautiful church La Madeleine, we couldn’t have missed Laduree, a luxury bakery and sweets maker house in the very heart of Paris. We visited the original place where the house was founded in 1862, still open to the public. Now, also a restaurant and tea salon, it’s the ultimate expression of the French lifestyle and cuisine. In 1930 Pierre Desfontaines, the grandson of Louis-Ernest Ladurée had the original idea of creating the famous macarons (two almond meringue discs filled with a layer of buttercream, jam, or ganache filling). Since then,  Laduree is still one of the best-known makers of macarons in the world.

Laduree Desserts

Laduree Macarons

Laduree competitor, Pierre Hermé is another popular choice in Paris, known for their famous macarons as they bring unusual flavor combinations while Laduree is more classic.

Fauchon founded in 1886, is the most luxurious store in Paris selling delicatessen, cakes and pastry, breads, and confectionery is also worth visiting. With so many options you could hardly decide what to finally buy.

Fauchon Macarons and Sweets - culinary adventure in Paris

Of course, I had to try making macarons by myself. I am glad to share with you some of my favorite macarons I have tried so far with either French or Italian meringue. Hope you will try these Coconut Macarons, Raspberry Macarons with Italian Meringue, Chocolate Macarons with Salted Caramel Filling and Chocolate Macarons. If you like the idea of macaron cakes you can try these amazing Chocolate Macaron Cake or this Pistachio Strawberry Macaron Cake.

Boulangeries in Paris

You can not be in Paris and not enter one of their great boulangeries to buy fresh baguettes, croissants, or any other delicious treats. You can feel the smell of a boulangerie from a distance.. so tempting and irresistible.

If you like croissants I am glad to share with you the recipe for these Quick Croissants that look and taste amazing. and are much easier to prepare than the classic ones.

Cooking Classes in Paris

I wanted to take advantage of being in Paris and take some cooking classes. I found this school in the center of Paris, called La Cuisine Paris. It is very easy to find, located minutes away from Notre Dame, or Hotel de Ville.  I had a very nice time there as the staff were really friendly and professional.

Chocolate Cooking Class

The first class I took was a Chocolate lover class with Chef Diane. She was so kind to share her knowledge. In only three hours we were ambitious enough to make some pretentious recipes.

La Cuisine Paris Chocolate Class - Tarts

La Cuisine Paris Chocolate Class - Marzipan Candies - culinary adventure in Paris

We made Chocolate and Salted Butter Caramel Tartelettes. Started with Pate Brisse and learned how to place it in molds. We learned how to make the perfect salted caramel. Then we learned the techniques of using both types of chocolate, dark and white, in various recipes, making chocolate ganache for the tartelettes, white chocolate and lime truffles, white chocolate mousse with Strawberry Coulis Sauce and Marzipan hearts dipped in dark chocolate.

All sound amazing and the result was as we expected – not disappointing at all.  At the end of our class, we all enjoyed our treats and took home some of our creations. After a night in the fridge, the tartelettes and truffles were just incredible.

Inspired by this class I have posted this amazing recipe for Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart that I hope you will try it too.

French Baguette and Boulangerie Class

The second class I took was French Baguette and Boulangerie Class. The menu included Baguettes Parisiennes, of course, and Fougasses which are Artisanal breads filled with a variety of ingredients such as cheeses, spices, dried fruits, and nuts.

Chef Justin who made his training in one of the most prestigious schools in Paris- Gregoire Ferrandi Culinary School, taught us how to knead and work the bread by hand, also the techniques that make it possible to create the most amazing Parisian baguettes in our homes.

La Cusine Paris - Boulangerie Class Baguettes

La Cusine Paris Boulangerie Class Fougasse - culinary adventure in Paris

We did it all from scratch, with our own hands, no machine involved. I think it is not necessary to mention the smell that came while they were baking… simply divine.

If you want to try baguettes at home I highly recommend trying this recipe for crusty and golden Homemade Baguettes. They are simply irresistible.

No matter how many times you go to Paris, there is always something new to discover. I am looking forward to the next visit, hope sooner than later.

Hope you enjoyed our culinary adventure in Paris. If you’ve been to Paris, I’d love to hear from you and chat about your experiences there. Also, don’t forget to share your photos with me on Instagram. Cheers!
