The recipe is meant for an 8-inch (20cm) pan. The layers of cakes are not tall indeed, as they are more dense, brownie-like, not fluffy and tall like sponge cakes.

Eileen, you probably tried to keep skipping the steps several times which is why the ads kept appearing. If you try to watch the video without skipping it should work smoothly. Also, you can always see the video recipes on YouTube on my channel. See which version works best for you.
